Myths are popular misconceptions or beliefs about a topic. There are myths about a wide range of topics from monsters to the world being flat. There are even myths about digital marketing and we are here to debunk them.
You might think that as long as you have a website where you can be reached, then you don’t need anything else. This is wrong! A website is very important, but these days you need more. The more platforms you are on, the more reach and potential for new clients you will have. It is important that you think outside of the digital realm too! Believe it or not, not everyone is online. You never know where your future client might find you. It could be someone who saw your flyer on a desk or grabbed your business card. Make sure to cover all of your bases so that you don’t miss out on opportunities for new clients.
The fact that your competitors aren’t online is the exact reason why you should be! You want to have the advantage that the other company does not. There’s a chance that you’re thinking “how could I ever market my business online?” The answer is, everyone can do it. No matter what business you’re in, there are people in the world searching for your services or products. Even extremely specific services, like a grooming business for Siamese cats. Well, guess what? There are a lot of people who have Siamese cats, probably love them, and would pay good money for your grooming expertise. If you’re the only Siamese cat grooming business online, then you’re probably beating the competitor Siamese cat grooming businesses.
You do not need to post every day on every platform. In fact, it’s more strategic to plan out content and post during peak times rather than just posting every day for the heck of it. Have you ever signed up for an email list and get five emails a day from just one company? At that point, you just unsubscribe from their emails because it’s overwhelming. The same idea applies for social media. If you over post, you might overwhelm some people and cause them to unfollow your page. Consistency is key. Remember, consistency does not mean abundance. If you post once a week, biweekly, or even once a month, it’s better to stay consistent then overload with noise. An important rule is always quality over quantity. Depending on the topic, you might post every day. For example, if you were having a countdown for a huge sale for your company, then you’d want to post every day as a reminder. There are a lot of companies that will do this for Black Friday, Labor Day, or even President’s Day.
This is the biggest myth of them all! While the “big guys” are great and they are doing big things for big clients, they were once the small guys. Every business starts somewhere. Don’t be afraid to hire a boutique marketing agency. Small agencies have many advantages. First, they will always go the extra mile to impress you. They want to prove that even though they are small, they are mighty and can provide the same quality as the marketing giants, maybe even better. Second, they are more personal. With a small marketing agency, you get to sit down and tell them exactly what you want and they will listen. They will put in the time just to get things right. This is an extremely important quality of marketing agencies.
